Music of a College Student

Music has had an impact on me as a person, on my perception of creativity, but it also has impacted my efficiency in my academic life. I have discovered specific kinds of music that allows my brain to lock in, flow, or relax. I believe that understanding the effect music has on you can be used as a tool.

I specifically remember freshman year of High School I would be up extremely late for hours doing online course projects. Machine Girl was the specific artist I would listen to on repeat in order to concentrate. From then on whenever I was trying to complete an assignment at a fast rate I would listen to Machine Girl. I recommend giving it a try and seeing if the music helps you focus.

Another more conventional type of music to listen to in a study setting is any Jazz or Piano. Although Machine Girl songs have some lyrics, I often find that music with no lyrics helps my mind comprehend content the best. Jazz playlists or Piano playlists on Youtube are a go-to. Additionally, if you look up an instrumental music playlist on Spotify it will give you a Mix of songs based on artists you have listened to. I really like the playlist Spotify has for me and I have listened to it often this semester.

Focusing and comprehending information are both very important, but I feel it is just as important to know what music will relax you. As a college student there are very stressful times. An artist that has helped me relax for years now is Alex G. I find that some of his music has a melancholy tone while other songs for me are solely peaceful. Regardless, I enjoy all of his music. Other artists include Faye Webster, The Marias, Blood Orange, Quadeca, Whirr, Midrift, Steve Lacy, Foushee, Ravyn Lenae, and even certain songs from Yung Lean's discography. On a walk to class I typically like to listen to music that will relax me so I do not get stressed in my day. I also find this type of music allows me to enjoy my walks more or little parts of my day.

I hope throughout my life I find new artists which allow me to adapt to situations better, whether in my education or career. I believe everyone can benefit from using music as a way to benefit themselves in their education and listen to new music to see what effect it may have on them.
