October has come and gone, but Brain Waves is here to stay! We had our first two Initiative Spotlights, launched the OFFICIAL PODCAST, hosted a voter registration tabling thanks to the kind people at the Leadership & Service Center on-campus, and had some super cool conversations with even cooler students.
Have something you want to talk about? Ask me, Zaiah, your Associate Director of Educational Programming and you can be featured on the show. If you’re a WUSC DJ, you can get one off-air hour by coming on! For now, here’s October’s highlights:
All Things USC Parking & Transportation w/ Brian Favela, Amy Hebert, and Douglas Helms
Zaiah sits down with USC’s Director of Parking and Transportation, Brian, and his Assistant Directors to discuss the new Park USC app and the inner-workings of the industry as part of the show’s first ever Initiative Spotlight.
Read more about the Park USC app here!
The History of Computers
Zaiah takes it solo for this history lesson on “how we tricked rocks into thinking”, from the very first calculator all the way to the M1 MacBook.
Talking TurboVote w/ Jamie Howelle & Emma Ormond
Emma and Jamie talk TurboVote and how Blatt came to be an early voting location for USC students to utilize in the upcoming Presidential election. Plus, what’s the LSC all about?
Find more info about TurboVote here!
PoliSci: Why? w/ Anna Bishop, Political Science Major
Anna recounts her internship experience in Washington, DC last spring and notes her involvement with student organizations on-campus. Plus, a special Radiothon segment on albums inspired by film & TV!
Preservation & Politics w/ Robert Freeman, Political Science Major
Robert gives his thoughts on historical preservation, why where you’re from matters, and the weird wonders of a steamed bagel sandwich.
International Food Discourse w/ Aidan Reilly (Psychology Major), Joshua Lazenby (IIT Major), and Vikram Kneece (Public Health Major)
Three food enthusiasts debate over which cuisine is king, how culture factors into what we eat, and more on a first-of-its-kind episode for the show. Plus, famous haunted restaurants and their stories: to eat or not to eat?
Brain Waves is WUSC’s ONLY educational hour airing on Mondays and Thursdays from 5-6 PM. Want to hear more? Check out the official podcasthere.
