Benson Boon delivers a performance of a lifetime after being nominated for four of MTV’s Video Music Awards and winning one.
The singer/songwriter made his musical debut in 2021 on the ABC show American Idol. Today, he is all anyone can talk about after his stellar performance of the hit song, “Beautiful Things,” at the MTV VMAs. Boone was nominated for Best New Artist, Song of the Summer, MTV Performance of the Year, and took away the VMA for Best Alternative last night.
After a typical, hip-hop performance by Megan Thee Stallion, Benson Boone was introduced to sing his Song of the Summer, “Beautiful Things.” Boone began the performance at a grand piano, playing and singing the first verse in a sparkling navy blue jumpsuit.
He then made his way to a platform on stage right for the bridge leading to the chorus, where he front-flipped off of it for the beat drop, landing just in time to nail the first line of the chorus.
The crowd reacted in cheers as the performance continues to play out. A viral video of artist Sabrina Carpenter’s reaction to the onstage stunt is now circulating Twitter and TikTok feeds. Boone continues his performance into the crowd, showcasing his captivating ability to perform for an audience.
The crowd cheers as he makes his way forward onto the thrust of the stage where he interactics with fans during the second verse. As the second verse leads into the bridge, Boone makes his way on top of the center stage piano for the chorus as golden sparks pyrotechnics rain behind him. Boone then executes another flip, this time backwards, off of the piano before hitting a high note that truly shows his live music capabilities. He then signs off the song while adlibing and screaming, “The VMAs!” to end his outstanding performance.
This performance solidifies Boone’s spot in the mainstream music world by proving his ability, and agility, to create an unbelievable and unforgetting performance in just under four minutes. If you haven’t already heard of or listened to Benson Boone, it might be too late to start and tell people that you, “knew him before he was big,” but, you’re just in time for this best new artist.
